He makes a way out of no way: Widow at Zarephath

Updated: Apr 30, 2019

"Then the woman said to Elijah, now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord from your mouth is the truth" 1 Kings 17:24

There was drought in the land and food was scarce. God sent Elijah to go visit a widow at Zarephath. He met her at the gate picking up sticks to make a meal for herself and her son.

Elijah called out to her wanting water and some bread to eat. However, the woman did not see how this would be possible, because she barely had enough for her family.

Nevertheless, Elijah instructed her what to do and there was enough food for Elijah and her family to eat for days! I can imagine how this woman felt.

Wondering where the next meal is going to come from. Worried about the piles of bills on the table, knowing your child still need shoes for school.

I remember a time when my son was a couple of months old and I was on food stamps. I started working a job that was paying me basically pennies and social services cut my food stamps from $240.00 to $14.00. Yes I said fourteen dollars!

I remember feeling devastated and downright angry, because I felt like I was here doing everything I am supposed to be doing going to school and working, but I can't even afford food.

The money I was going to spend on groceries, I knew I needed to buy things for my baby. I felt just like the widow at Zarephath stuck!

But in my despair, God gave me hope and the courage to continue going. He also provided another job for me where I was making more money and would not need to depend on food stamps!

Mothers I know it is hard and you may feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel, just remember God makes a way out of no way.

The widow did not know that she was going to experience a two-fold miracle. God not only provided food for her family, but he also gave Elijah the power to resurrect her son from death. Elijah was sent to her to show her God's infinite power.

She knew God as a provider, but now she saw God as a LIFE-GIVER! "Then the woman said to Elijah, now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord from your mouth is the truth" 1 Kings 17:24

Perhaps God allowed it to happen so you can see another level of him. Maybe there are things in your life, you feel are dead and buried, but God wants to give life to. There is no limit to what he can do. Stay encouraged!

What is it that you need to hand over to God?

Prayer

Lord I am praying for your daughters. Father continue to watch over them. Give them peace and restoration. Lord you told us not be anxious and to cast our burdens at your feet. Heavenly Father, we are bringing our requests to you.

We are asking you to heal us, comfort us, and crown our year with bounty. It is not by our will, but yours. Let your will be done in Jesus name!
